Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
and other useful information
Submissions questions
Q: How do I submit a record?
A: If you have achiveved a survival time within the community rules and guidelines, submit a screenshot that includes the end statistics to this page together with a demo/video recording (if the round wasn't played in Gold Miner's L4D2 servers, which automatically records demos).
Q: Why isn't my record uploaded to the leaderboard?
A: As the staff are working hard to update the leaderboards as soon as they can in their free time, there can be a delay with the updates. If you feel like your time has not been updated in a very long time, contact a member of the staff to get clarification.
Q: Why was my record disqualified?
A: Times can be disqualified for several reasons that defy the community rules. If your time was disqualified, information about what record, reason, and what player it involves are listed in this steam thread, or at #dq-times on discord.
Q: How do I record a demo?
A: Before starting the round, open the console (usually by pressing the tilde key (`) and type in record followed by any word you want to name the demo. When the round is over, type stop in the console and the demo can be found at: steamapps > common > Left 4 Dead 2
Q: How do I play a demo?
A: Make sure the demo you want to watch is in steamapps > common > Left 4 Dead 2 folder. Open console and type in playdemo and pick the demo of interest from the scroll list, press enter. To speed it up or pick a specific tick, press Shift + F2 to open up demoui. See more information about demos here.
Q: What workshop add-ons am I allowed to use?
A: If there's a specific add-on that isn't mentioned in the rules, discuss it with the staff in the #addons-discussion forum on discord.
Q: How can I be part of the High Honors list?
A: High Honors are earned by achieving a survival time of 20+ minutes or higher on all official maps by legit means. To achieve high honors, send screenshots of the end statistics of all maps to a member of staff, or post them publicly on your steam profile. Demos are not required to be submitted.
Q: How do I know if my record has been uploaded?
A: Either by using the search bar on the site or checking the #verified-times channel on discord.
Q: How can I become a member of staff and help with updating the leaderboard?
A: If you think you could contribute to the community as a member of the staff, apply here!
Servers questions
Q: How do I connect to one of the Gold Miners servers?
A: By joining the Gold Miners steam group, a list of the servers will show up in the main menu, join a server from there. Another way of joining a server is through the console (usually by pressing the tilde key (`). Type in console connect followed by the server's IP-address.
Example: connect 70.34.203.149:27015
Q: How do I use the server commands?
A: By typing the command through the in-game chat (default key is Y).
Example: !nb (no bots) or /nb (by using dash players won't see the command in chat)
Q: Can I get a copy of the plugins used on GM servers?
A: No, sorry! The plugins are custom made and some require database access to function properly. Some plugins may be found via a google search but they may differ slightly to the plugins used on GM.
Q: Why doesn't a specific server appear/why does it say "Error connecting" on some servers?
A: Servers automatically reboots every hour, unless there are players in them. When all players disconnect from the server, the server will temporarily lock itself to be able to reboot. This can take 1-5 minutes at most.
Q: Why are only certain locations available for servers?
A: We use Vultr as our server provider and subsequently are only able to setup new servers in the locations they offer. As they expand locations we will too. Check our patreon here for more information!
Q: Do I get server admin if I support the cost of the servers?
A: No, sorry! We don't want people to feel like they're at a disadvantage just because they cannot afford to support the servers. We're also wary of bad faith actors being given power just because they can pay. Nor do we want people to feel like they should have priority access just because they're supporting the community servers.
Q: What happens to a server location if I stop being able to pay to ensure it stays active?
A: If another community member pays to support it or there's enough tier 1 support to ensure the costs aren't too high for the server team personally we may be able to keep it. Otherwise generally if a server doesn't see too much traffic and our overall costs are too high we may have to drop the location until someone picks up support for it in the future.
Q: Where can I suggest new features or where is the best location to find out more information regarding the community servers?
A: The Gold Miners Discord is a great place to meet other community members.

How to open console
Most keyboards have the tilde key (`) below the ESC key, which by default opens the console when in game. If your keyboard doesn't have that, then there are two ways to launch the console, first way being;
Go to your Steam Library, right click on Left 4 Dead 2 and click on Properties.
In General, scroll down to LAUNCH OPTIONS and type -console
Console will now appear in the main menu when booting the game up.
The second way is by binding a command to a key, for example the F4 key or any other key of choice. To bind a key you need to type
bind "F4" toggleconsole in the console (either by following the first way) or by adding the command in your autoexec file. Autoexec is a list of commands that automatically runs at the start of the game. Autoexec = Automatically executed.
To make an autoexex.cfg file;
Go to your Steam Library, right click on Left 4 Dead 2 and click on Manage followed by Browse local files.
Navigate to Left 4 Dead 2 > left4dead2 > cfg
In this folder you want to create a new Notepad file, type in your bind, example: bind "F4" toggleconsole
Save your Notepad as autoexec.cfg so that it converts into a CFG file. Now you can toggle console by pressing the F4 key. In your autoexec you can type in different sorts of binds or individual settings.
